Bossy Dragon

The gun didn’t make much of a noise when Rebecca pulled the trigger. Quinn lunged toward her, but Drake intercepted. “You don’t know who you’re fucking with, Quinn.”

She elbowed him in the stomach.

Drake doubled over.

Quinn glanced over to see that Henrik narrowly escaped the first shot, but Rebecca was already loading up her next round. She charged the dragon slayer and hit her like a fullback clobbering the quarterback on a critical play.

Rebecca grunted beneath her.

Quinn raised her fist to punch the slayer in the face, eager to keep her occupied and preferably not shooting at Henrik. She had no idea if she was firing bullets, tranquilizers, or some kind of poison, but she wasn’t going to let her dragon get hurt.

Henrik roared so loud, Quinn shuddered and cringed against how loud it was in her ears. She glanced over her shoulder to find Henrik looking like Mr. Hyde was about to come out. He was barely containing his dragon.

He stormed forward, right for her. Henrik didn’t even pause in his stride as he hoisted Quinn over his shoulder, while knocking Rebecca clean out. He growled as he stomped past Drake.

“Henrik,” Quinn grunted as she tried to squirm off his shoulder.

His hand clapped down onto her ass, anchoring her to him. He nearly busted the sliding door onto the back patio. He set her down, climbed onto the railing and leapt. Quinn could barely breathe as she watched Henrik burst into a giant dragon. It happened so close she couldn’t get a good look at his full form. He was a flurry of wings, legs, claws, and a tail. His clothing fell around her in shreds like confetti.

Henrik’s dragon scooped her up into its talons before she could even scream. Luckily, she hadn’t even had a moment to take off her coat, because it was fucking cold in the Chicago night air. She didn’t dare look down while he climbed higher into the clouds.

She wondered how many people could’ve possibly seen him.

“Henrik, you can’t do this. What if someone sees you? What are you doing?”

No answer. He just flew up higher into the night sky.

“You left your car.”

Henrik snarled.

“That you’re upset about?”

They flew for a while and Quinn was beyond freezing. Her teeth were chattering, her body shivering uncontrollably.

“I’m going t-to end up with hy-hypo-th-thermia at this rate,” she said out loud.

Henrik growled and then started to descend toward the ground. She tried to get an idea of where they were, but she couldn’t see anything. It was just dark.

The landing was a little rough as he dropped her to the ground. She landed in a snowbank. She huffed and got to her feet, knocking the snow away. Her body was so cold. She glanced around the small clearing. The gibbous moon offered some light, but she could see a structure not too far in the distance.

She heard Henrik’s wings behind her and turned around. Henrik landed behind her and shifted just as his feet hit the ground. The man was stark naked.
